D.A.S. Habitat

Subang Jaya, Selangor

Main Contractor | AVRY Engineering Sdn. Bhd.

This project responded to the existing residential unit by design using “subtraction” instead of “addition”. We always think that additions are good such as additional floors, additional built-up area, additional car park and so on. Actually “less is more”. This is portrayed through D.A.S. Habitat as the owner, who is a wildlife artist requested for an open air concept throughout the building; where most of the spaces are not enclosed with solid walls and fixed glass windows. This project is an example of a building that truly blurred the boundaries between the internal and external spaces which extensively emphasized on natural ventilation in a tropical weather building. It exemplifies an artistic habitat for a wildlife artist in the greatest sense: eco-sustainable, low energy, nature-loving and humble.

“D.A.S. Habitat is a small house rebuilt perfectly to serve a big purpose. A home for my dogs, a sanctuary for me, a hangout for persons I love and a perfect birthing place for my art. It holds everything I love together.” - Christine Das, Wildlife Conservation Artist.
